Fried Tassos Olives

 

 

These are little bites of heaven. Fried Tassos Olives have a nice crunch that is music in our ears. These olives are the wonderfully juicy centers of a crisp batter, almost like they are melting and wow, the flavor is terrific.

Frying just adds tremendous flavors and though we can’t eat too many fried foods, when you take two of the healthiest foods, olives and olive oil, we can indulge with these.

These are truly the best fried appetizer and they will go with any of your favorite dipping sauces. An added bonus of these little golden fried nuggets is that they reheat very well.

 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Tassos® Feta, Blue Cheese, Pimiento, Garlic, Jalapeno Stuffed or Pitted Green, Black or Kalamata Olives or a mix of all
  • ½ cup Panko or fine dry breadcrumbs
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs well beaten 
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • Dash of cayenne pepper
  • Tassos® Extra Virgin Olive Oil for deep-fat frying

Directions

Place the olives on a paper towel and pat dry.

Set out three shallow bowls or pans. In one, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper then dredge the olives through this dry mixture. Into a second bowl, beat the eggs and run the olives through them. In the final bowl place the breadcrumbs, roll olives, covering them well and evenly. Set aside and allow to form a dry crust.

Heat about 1.5” of EVOO until it sizzles. (Drop a very small piece of bread crumb into the oil; if it starts to sizzle the oil is hot enough.)

Fry the olives in the hot EVOO until golden brown or about a minute. Tip the oil out of the center of the pitted olives before removing from the pan. Drain the olives on a paper towel and serve hot or place in a warm oven until ready to serve.

Serve

Serve hot with any of your favorite quality salad dressings or dips such as garlic aioli, sour cream, marinara sauce, or pesto.  Include as part of an antipasto plate that may include Tassos® Sundried Tomatoes, Roasted Red Peppers and/or cold deli meats.

You may make in advance and simply reheat in an oven of 350° F or simply microwave,
