Grilled Greek Burger

Back at the beginning of the 20th century, The Dictionary of American Slang, described the ‘burger’ as containing many condiments.

Do not be skeptical of our Greek Burger because it has no traditional condiments. That is right, no ketchup, mayo or mustard, not even lettuce or tomatoes. It does not need them.

This burger has ‘condiments’ that are healthier and amazingly flavorful while still cheesy, sweet, salty and satisfying.

Americans love the burger, eating around 50 billion a year; we even have a National Hamburger Day and Month! This is a burger that loves you back as it is full of American Heart Association® certified ingredients.

Ingredients

• 2¼ lb lean ground beef

• ¾ c Tassos® Bruschetta Olivara

• 6 Tbsp Tassos® Roasted Red Pepper & Cheese Spread

• 1 yellow onion, sliced

• 3 Tbsp Tassos® Extra Virgin Olive Oil, plus additional for oiling grill rack

• ¾ tsp salt

• 1 tsp black pepper

• 6 grilled or toasted hamburger buns or Kaiser rolls

• 6 Tassos® Fire Roasted Whole Sweet Florinas Peppers

Cooking Directions

Directions

Divide beef into 6 equal balls. Divide these once again for 12 equal balls and flatten into approx. 4-inch patties.

Place 1½ Tbsp bruschetta olivara in center of each of 6 patties. Top each with a second patty, pinching edges to seal in filling. Place on tray, cover, and refrigerate.

Prepare grill for cooking over direct heat with medium-hot charcoal/gas.

While the grill is heating, mix remaining bruschetta olivara with red pepper and cheese spread and refrigerate.

Sauté onion in 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil until translucent and slightly caramelized.

Season patties on both sides with salt and pepper. Lightly oil grill rack. Grill patties, turning only once for medium rare, cooking approx. 3 minutes.

Spread inside of rolls/buns with the bruschetta/cheese-spread mixture.

Serve

Top burger with roasted peppers and sautéed onion.
