Heart-Healthy Homemade Fries

When the healthiest populations of the Mediterranean are studied for the source of their longevity and well-being, it was found that 45% of their daily calories came from olive oil, with the most common cooking method being deep frying with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

We all need fries in our life, so choose your favorite potatoes and any one of our American Heart Association® certified Extra Virgin Olive Oils.

This is a very easy and straight forward recipe for homemade fries. Deep frying with olive oil improves the absorption of vitamins such as A, D, E, and K so, don’t hesitate to enjoy. The higher the quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the higher the smoke point. To avoid lowering the temperature of the oil, do not crowd the pan.

Ingredients

• 8 medium potatoes (about 3 lbs)

• Tassos® Extra Virgin Olive Oil for frying

• salt and pepper or oregano and feta cheese (optional)

Cooking Directions

Directions

Peel and cut potatoes into ¼-inch thick slices. Soak in bowl of water for 30 minutes. Pat dry with paper towels.

Put 1–2 inches extra virgin olive oil in frying pan over medium heat. Oil should be deep enough to cover fries. Once oil is shimmering but not quite smoking, barely submerge potatoes but do not crowd. Stir gently every few minutes and fry until tender, lightly crusted, and golden, 10–15 minutes.

Serve

Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with sea salt and pepper or oregano and crumbled feta cheese. Serve immediately.
